Vitamin C is America's most popular individual supplement, but its common forms are harsh, acidic, and often lose potency quickly. This product is different!*
As an anti-oxidant, vitamin c reacts to oxygen in the air and gets used up. That means the vitamin c could well be inert, inactive, used up, whatever term you want to use, by the time you take it. That makes powders somewhat suspect because they have so much exposure to the air once the bottle is opened that several researchers have found that entire tubs are largely inert within a week - long before the buyer has finished consuming the product. Tablets of vitamin c suffer from the same problem to a lesser extent - there is still far too much surface area of product exposed to the environment once a bottle is opened.*
Ultra Botanicals solves the problems two ways. First of all, they encapsulate their product so that there is no exposure to oxygen in the air. Then, they add alpha lipoic acid (ALA), which serves to recharge the vitamin c. In fact, when ALA was first discovered, it was though its primary function in the body was simply to recharge other anti-oxidants (both fat and water soluble) once they were used up (gave up their electrons). It does do that; in fact each molecule of ALA can do it twice before it becomes inert. So, it will keep the vitamin c potent for longer, and then recharge it even after it was used up in the body. It turns out that ALA is also a powerful anti-oxidant in its own right, and you're getting 50 mg per serving of it in this product, essentially for free!*
On top of all of that, Ultra Botanicals uses the Calcium Ascorbate form of vitamin c to deliver a form of vitamin c that is buffered. If you have ever read of a "toxic effect" of vitamin c, it is almost always referring to the distress to the GI system that the harshness of ascorbic acid creates (potentially resulting in diarrhea and/or stomach upset when). The natural buffering effect of the calcium in calcium ascorbate reduces the acidity enormously, eliminating the problem. *
Even more, Calcium Ascorbate avoids a problem almost never mentioned, curiously. You may have heard that when you take more vitamin c than your body needs, the excess comes out in your urine. That is one of the reasons some people tease supplement takers as having the most expensive urine in the world. (The counter to that argument is that we believe it's better to have too much and excrete it than to have too little and pay THAT price!). Did you know that vitamin c when it comes out of the body tends to come out in the form of calcium ascorbate? If it didn't go in as calcium ascorbate, then where did the calcium come from? Think about that one for a little while!*
This is why calcium ascorbate is our favorite water soluble form for vitamin c, and we're thrilled to be able to offer this product to you. It's more stable, it protects itself from losing potency, it may even recharge in your body to be used again (and again), and it does not contribute to net calcium loss. It's initial price may be a little higher than some products you're used to, but we believe when you compare the cost of active vitamin c in your body as a result of taking a supplement, this will be least expensive supplement you could have purchased. *
Suggested Use: Take two (2) capsules daily, preferably at mealtime, or as directed by your health care professional.
