Triathlons are fun! They are great to compete in for their own sake, and they are great cross-training for your other sports.

If you want to run faster, train for triathlons!
If you want to bike faster, train for triathlons!
If you want to swim faster, though, you’ll have to swim more. While swimming helps with overall conditioning for the other 2 sports, it seems the only thing that improves swimming is training specifically at swimming.

The thing that stops most people from entering triathlons is the swim leg. If that describes you, you should know that 80% of triathletes feel that the swim is their weakest leg, so you’re in good company. The good news is that the swim is the shortest leg and is over first, so once you get out of the water, it’s smooth going from there to the finish!

Besides, it’s fun to have new stuff to do! Multi-sport training actually causes less wear and tear than focusing on a single sport; you don’t have to put in as many miles in any one sport because of the variety of training your are doing.
